Hair/ makeup ideas for my little sister's prom?

My 16 year old sister is going to her first school prom in a few weeks. She acts younger than most people her age-she's a lot more naive and innocent, and because she's slightly different she's suffered from bullying all her life.

She doesn't really have much of an idea about hair and makeup like the rest of the girls in her year so I offered to give her a little makeover which she liked the sound of. I want to make her look really nice and make her feel special for a change-she deserves it.

She's wearing a black and silver dress with black shoes and silver accessories. She has long brown hair (that tends to be a bit on the frizzy side) and she has a fair complexion with blue eyes.

Any ideas? I need some inspiration for hair and makeup ideas that are really pretty but without looking like she's wearing a ton of makeup. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks! xHair/ makeup ideas for my little sister's prom?
try a really nice updo, nothing too smart but something really cute. how about this?

(it works great on straight or curly hair)

apply a serum (i like mark hill but you can use any, this is vital if the hair is a little frizzy). remember not to use too much, and start at the ends. then take a brush and comb it back at the top so that the top of your hair is teased backwards. then with the brush tease the sides of your hair. with your hands, smooth your crown and spritz heavily with any hairspray. repeat the brushing and smooth it over with your hands.

gather your hair with both hands and put it in a high ponytail, smoothing out the bumps carefully while moving your hair up your crown. do this by flipping your hair upside down and gathering all your hair in one spot. it's helpful to use a paddle brush for this.

you can secure the bun in a few ways, choose from:

* tie your elastic around the center of the circle. it will look like you have a small donut in the middle of your head with hair sticking out from the back of it in all directions. stick the hair that is sticking out into the same elastic.

* wrap your elastic twice around your hair, then pull your ponytail half-way through the elastic. pull some bits and pieces out from inside the half-ponytail so it's hanging down. you may also want to leave out wisps around the nape of your neck.

* secure your elastic around your hair tightly into a ponytail. coil your hair around the base of your ponytail as if you were putting it in a ballerina bun. flatten the bun to your head and secure with an elastic. try pinning it with bobby pins- when done well, this helps the look a lot. pull out bits and pieces and shake your head until you achieve the desired effect.

* pull hair back into a ponytail, then backcomb it (hold the bottom of your ponytail and brush upwards towards the elastic) until it is quite fluffed up, then spray with some hairspray. if her hair is not overly long so you can just secure the bun with another elastic after folding the end of your pony back against the beginning. then gently brush the bun to pull out a few tendrils of hair.

* comb hair back, and make a low bun. then, make a bun out of the bun. tie with an elastic, making sure the bunned-bun stays in place, and doesn't tumble out into a ponytail.

* or put an elastic (while still holding onto the ponytail with the left hand) around your right wrist. lift your right hand so that its right by the ponytail. make the left hand grab the pony, and let go of your right hand. with your left hand grab the elastic on the right hand and pull so it wraps around the pony. tug the elastic very far and tightly twist, so that the left hand will now be inside the elastic. with the right hand again, tug the elastic to the right so it wraps around but instead of what you did last time, stop in the middle of the dangling hair and twist. now your right hand should be tight in the pony. with your left hand, grab the elastic off your right wrist and pull so that it stops at the messy buns end.

you should also accentuate the hairstyle, you can do this by running your fingers through the front of your hair to loosen it from the elastic and add texture. or you could slide in a thin black headband two inches back from her hair line. slide in a second thin black headband three inches behind the first one.

finally, mist her entire head with hairspray. while spraying the hairspray make sure you spray it about seven to eight inches away. this will help the style stay put longer. i love tigi hairspray btw.

as for make-up, dont go too over the top if she is not used to wearing it. use a bit of concealer and foundation if she needs it. for the eyes id go for a smokey look, this is really easy and looks amazing. keep the lips simple, a little bit of gloss and thats enough, the body shop do some great ones that smell good enough to eat lol.

experiment with the eyes until you find something that suits her eyes and really brings them out. here are a other few ideas:

the key here is to blend well. also, make sure to keep all other makeup light or you risk looking like a clown. you don't want the rest of your makeup to compete with your eyes.

SMOKEY EYES:

holding the skin of your upper lid taut, apply eyeliner from the inside corner of the eye outward. draw strokes into the lash line. the middle of the line should be a bit thicker than the edges. use a cotton swab (or your finger, if you're lazy like me) to ';smudge'; the liner.

dab an eyeshadow brush into a deep-hued eyeshadow and apply over the eyeliner to set the line. (blow on the brush first to remove any excess shadow). layering liner with a shadow is the secret to a perfect smoky eye.

blend shadow well, then follow with eyeshadow. colour should diffuse from rich and dark near the lashes to almost sheer as it extends to the crease.

THE BOLD, DRAMATIC EYE:

bold eyes are a dramatic choice for evening. try eyeliner shades other than deep black for a super cool look. you can use either a liquid liner or try the makeup artist's trick and use an angled eyeshadow brush dipped in a deep-hued eyeshadow. skip the pencil for this look.

holding the skin of your upper lid taut, apply the liquid liner from the middle of the eye to the outside corner of the eye. draw a second line from the inside corner of your eye, letting the two lines meet. the outer edge of the line should be thicker than the inside. if you have close-set eyes, avoid taking the line all the way to the inside corner.

THE CAT EYE:

sexy cat eyes are a cool look for night. the key to this look is to apply a thin line to the inside rims of the lids.

holding the skin of your upper lid taut, dot liquid liner along the upper lash line as close to the eye as possible. apply line from corner to corner of eye, extending the line upward at the outer corner of eye. let liner dry for a few minutes before touching.

to soften this look (black liquid liner can be harsh) try a smudgeable pencil in a lighter color like dark brown or charcoal. hold down the lower lid and apply liner only to the outer three quarters of the rim. fade out the line as you approach the tear duct. extend the liner upwards at the outer corners. for a softer version of this look, use an eye shadow brush and sweep a taupe or brown color on the lower lash line.

good look and hope your sis has a great time : )

hope this helps

Your welcome! :-) I like to help others. You and your sister both seem nice! I dont know what its called, but I think your sis should make her hair like when you take a little in the back and tie it? Know what I mean? And make up: make it silvery all over eyelids and maybe some dark red lipstick (I suggest lipgloss). Good luck!
some nice pale grey shimmery eyeshadow, a few coats of black mascara and nice shiny lipgloss! straighten her hair, put it in a side parting holding it in place with a sparkly hair clip at the front
at that age I wouldn't say foundation is even necessary (usually their skin is fine)

Just some powder, you can choose a lipcolor...since it's your sis and she is wearing black you have many options. Perhaps she has a personal preference to light vs. darker color, or pinkinsh or whatever...you should play around with it and try diff colors on her to see.

Curl eyelashes and add mascara, if you think Black is too heavy then stick with Brown Black.

Use lighter blush so she doesn't look too made up.

To go with her silver accessories you could try adding some shimmer to her eyelids but not necessarily a heavy eyeshadow color.

Doing something with her hair should make her feel special/happy/excited or pleased.

At 16 they don't need to wear much

=)

You could also put a light or sparkly color polish on her fingernails.
a green or blue eyeshadow would look nice and black mascara .. but no eyeliner! because its kind of a little too much if u put black eyeliner with a black colored dress! but for hair i recommend curling the whole thing with a curling iron and then putting half up and half down with a side part but keep the pony tail low (like in the back of her head) and keep two big pieces of hair out in the front for what im telling you next .. take the two pieces and tie them in the back (underneath with a tiny elastic) so the front pieces will be tight to her head and pulled into the back and then the rest will be half up .. half down curled .. the tiny elastic will be hidden underneath the hair that is down and then maybe bobby-pins to hold it all together .. especially tight in the front!! and also you can put an optional sparkly clip or special ribbon, etc. to hide the elastic holding the ponytail in the back! GOOD LUCK (:
For hair I suggest going to get it done. Either a simple up sweep or down with some curls and maybe pined back on the sides.

For make up, I suggest a soft smoky eye. a little blush and a light berry lip gloss... not to bright. This way the focus is on her eyes... and she can still eat and drink and talk with out worrying about lip stick getting all over.

Keep it nice and simple and the sight below should help. I hope she has a great time becoming the beauty you know she is... what a nice big sister : ) Have fun
Tell your sister to have fun at her prom. I wore an all black A-Frame strappless dress with a white satin band that was around the top I have really long thick (sometimes frizzy) almost unmanageable hair. I had my hair done professionally I'm not sure if that's a possibility for your sister or not, but if not, wal-mart has a lot of products for frizzy hair. My favorites are FRIZZ-EASE and MIRACLE. The frizz-ease is a gel-like product a little bit goes a long way I use it every day. Apply that to wet hair then blow dry or let it dry naturally. Then once her hair is dry use th miracle product when u flatiron or curl her hair. Miracle is in a red bottle i get the spritz it's non areosol with white writing. For something simple try pulling half of her hair up and leave out some hair to curl in small banana curls in the front and maybe ven curl it all. PRACTICE A COUPLE TIMES BEFORE THE BIG DAY SO SHE CAN DECIDE HOW SHE WANTS IT FOR SURE (it's less stressful that way)

As far as the makeup, red lipstick/gloss doesn't work for everybody so play around with that too. I personally think the more neutral and natural makeup looks are great. I did my own makeup i used a black eyeliner on my bottom eyelids (inner eyelids) with a transleusent silver eyeshadow. I used a mauve lipgloss to give my lips a little tint but not much. And ofcouse I had my base and mascara. For mu blush i actually used my lipgloss!!! Use a liquid foundation and put a very small dab of the lipgloss and a small dab of the foundation on the back of your hand and blend to make sure you get the right color.

To top the look off i suggest a shimmery body spray or lotion. Body spray is my favorite you can put a little in your hair.

Hopefully I can be of some help. Good luck and have fun.
for the hair you could buy a frizz control conditioner to work with that or you could pin her hair up with slide clips, if not that how about curling it or straightening it with a few pieces of hair slide clipped back add a few curls

make up a shimmer silver colour eyeshadow not to grey like though some mascara that will make her eye lashes look long and thicker will stand out the eyeshadow more i use the new maybilene one mascara that is, try some clear lips gloss or clear with glitter in it, for the cheeks try foundation but dont put that on if she does not need to be perked up in the face only if she is pale skinned

hope i helped she look stunning
You should try doing a simple but sleek style, no foofy curls since her hair can be frizzy. Try slicking it back in a sleek pony tail that sits right on the crown of her head not too high but up there. make it tight, straighten out the pony tail and if you do not have a straightener blow dry it and put just a LITTLE creme or pomade just to hold it together, smooth some in the front too just to slick down any flyaways. Find a nice sparkly black or silver ponytail holder so it looks nice. Makeup: on the eyes put a nice simmer shadow on the lid only and mascara on the upper and lower lashes, start at the base of the lashes and wiggle your way up and out, lip gloss could be like a nice nude lip gloss, i recommend Revlon super lustrous lipgloss in nude lustre, it looks good on everyone and has pretty natural shine ot it. and that should do it. NO GLITTER PLEASE

Here is pic of the ponytail except w/o bangs (if she doesn't have bangs)
