Hair and Makeup Artist?

I am seventeen and I am interested in becoming a hair and makeup artist for theatre. Unfortunately I couldn't finish school for family reasons - I work full time right now - but is there some kind of tafe course in beauty or something that I could try. Should I try for a job in a salon? Or am I pretty much screwed?Hair and Makeup Artist?
Yes you can do it through TAFE..... I have just completed a Certificate II in Make up which focused on general beauty stuff too.

Your best bet is to do Cert IV which is a 9 month course.... just about to start the next semester or again in 2009. It is specifically geared towards the theatre and 'continuiity' within the tv industry (maintaining the same look over a long period). It also covers hair styling.

It is not cheap but is certainly affordable when compared with Private schools. A lot of the private institution do not offer the standards you would find at TAfE (being a government accredited institution, they certainly do cover all aspects of OH%26amp;S) and furthermore their teachers are expected to still be in the workforce (ie. working as a make-up artist) so their knowledge is current. The price for Cert IV is $9,500 but you can do this through a loan system, similar to 'hecs' (I am assuming you are Australian?!)

The course that follows this is the Diploma and it costs about $15,000. If you have already completed the Cert IV then the price is adjusted accordingly.

Hop onto their website - the institute offering this is located at North Sydney.

I hope this helps you... may even see you there in 09!Hair and Makeup Artist?
I wanted the same thing so i went and became a qualified beauty therapist, in all my time in the salon i did 2 make ups. The only way for theater make up is through private courses. They are very expensive and time consuming, you need to be able to on hands on work. Also they are hard to get into even if you can afford it. Good luck anyway, maybe as a mature age student .
firstly do some work experience at a salon first for a couple of days a week or something to make sure u like it! but if u do u will have to study and get a diploma! u can do that at either beauty college or tafe!!!

tafe will be cheaper but a college might be highly recognised, see i studied to be a beauty therapist as thats what i wanted to do and half way throuh studying it i bummed out i didnt like it i still finished it but i want to be pampered i dont want to pamper someone else!!

just look around tafe to part time courses which means u can still work part time and earn some cash! well good luck!! and pls dont think since u left school ur screwed as ur not!!! tafe is always available
Hunny You can do whatever you want with your life the only that is stopping you is you! yeah you may have financial issues and family issues that are kinda holding you back but there is always a way...Its gonna be hard but in the long run you will look at your hard work and appriciate yourself more as well as it will make you a stronger person...Reach for the stars girl DONT LET ANYTHING OR ANYONE GET IN THE WAY OF YOUR DREAMS....just try to look for a community based school like for G.E.D program sometimes they have night school...look into resources at your local human services or unemployment office....its a process that takes steps to complete but the sooner you start the closer your goal is and each single step you take is that much closer too. GO BACK TO SCHOOL BEST THING FOR YOU!
darlin these days almost anything is possible there are tafe courses for all subjects. You should also look into apprenticeships which means you work and study at the same time.

In my opinion that would be the ideal situation for you.
to work in a salon you need a beauty permit you need to complete beauty school for it.
